Community Outreach

Serving our neighbors with love and compassion

Faith in Action

At Weston Christian Fellowship Church, we believe firmly that authentic faith cannot be contained within the walls of a church building. Jesus called His followers to love their neighbors, to care for the vulnerable, and to be a redemptive presence in the world around them. This conviction drives everything we do in the Berwick community and throughout the Annapolis Valley. Our outreach programs are open to all — regardless of faith background, church affiliation, or any other qualifier. We serve because we have been served; we love because we have first been loved. No strings attached. Every person who comes through our doors or crosses our path is treated with dignity, warmth, and genuine care. This is not charity — it is community.

Community Food Sharing

Every first Saturday of the month, our fellowship hall is transformed into a communal dining space where anyone — member or neighbor — is welcome to sit down to a home-cooked meal shared in good company. The Community Fellowship Luncheon is one of the most beloved expressions of our church's heart: a table big enough for everyone, with food prepared lovingly by our volunteer kitchen team.

Beyond our monthly luncheons, we maintain ongoing food-sharing partnerships with local food banks and families in need throughout the Annapolis Valley. Our community garden produces fresh vegetables that are freely shared with neighbors, and our members regularly organize food drives and practical assistance for families navigating difficult seasons. The kitchen at Weston Christian Fellowship Church has long been a place of warmth, welcome, and nourishment — in every sense of the word.

Environment & Stewardship

Environmental Stewardship

The Annapolis Valley is one of the most beautiful regions in Canada — with its rolling farmland, apple orchards in bloom, and the natural splendor of the Bay of Fundy tides. We believe that caring for creation is an act of worship and a responsibility entrusted to us by God. Our Environmental Stewardship program embodies this belief in practical ways throughout the year.

Our church participates in annual community tree planting initiatives, tends a flourishing community garden, and partners with local conservation groups to support efforts to protect and restore natural habitats in the valley. We organize seasonal community clean-up days, host educational sessions on sustainable living, and encourage our congregation to embrace environmental responsibility as a core expression of Christian faithfulness. For us, caring for the earth and caring for our neighbors are not separate pursuits — they are one and the same calling.

Neighborly Care

Community Wellness Checks

Nova Scotia winters can be long and isolating, especially for elderly residents and those living alone in rural areas. Our Community Wellness Check program was born out of the recognition that one of the most important things a church can do is simply show up — to knock on a door, to sit with someone over a cup of tea, to make sure that no neighbor is struggling alone.

Our dedicated team of volunteers makes regular visits to senior residents, homebound individuals, and isolated families throughout Berwick and surrounding communities. We check in on physical and emotional wellbeing, assist with practical needs like snow removal and grocery runs, and simply provide the companionship that so many people in our community deeply need. These visits are offered freely, without any expectation or agenda — only genuine care from one neighbor to another.

Youth Mentoring & Education Support

Every young person deserves a caring adult in their corner — someone who believes in them, who will help them navigate the challenges of growing up, and who will stand alongside them as they discover who they are and who they are becoming. Our Youth Mentoring program connects young people in Berwick and the Annapolis Valley with trained, compassionate adult mentors from our congregation.

We provide after-school tutoring and homework support for children and teenagers, safe community spaces for young people to spend time during evenings and weekends, and structured mentoring relationships that provide guidance, encouragement, and positive role modeling. We are especially committed to reaching young people from challenging backgrounds who may have fewer support structures in their lives. The investment in today's young people is an investment in the future of our entire community.

Stories of Change

Real lives touched through the power of community, compassion, and service

"When my husband passed away two winters ago, I truly did not know how I would manage on my own. I had lived in Berwick my whole life, but suddenly I felt utterly alone. It was the folks from Weston Christian Fellowship who changed everything. They started checking in on me regularly — bringing food, clearing my driveway after snowstorms, and simply sitting with me and listening. I am not a churchgoer, never have been, but no one ever made me feel that mattered. They treated me like family. I have friends now who I know truly care about me, and that has made all the difference in the world."

— Margaret, 74, Berwick resident

"We moved to the Annapolis Valley in the middle of a really difficult year for our family. We didn't know anyone, money was tight, and the kids were struggling with the transition to a new school and new community. Someone told us about the Saturday luncheon at Weston Christian Fellowship Church, so we went — just for a hot meal, honestly. But what we found was so much more than food. People welcomed us like we had always been there. The kids had other children to play with. Within a few weeks, our son was getting homework help, and I had a whole community of people who actually knew our names. This church gave us roots when we had none."

— David & Sarah, family of four, Annapolis Valley
